When exchangers are located on structures or at grade on independent foundations, the supports
shall be designed for vertical and horizontal forces (bundle pulling forces or friction forces). The operating weight of the exchanger shall be increased by 10% or 25kN whichever is the greater to account for the weight of piping and access platforms. Each support shall be designed for 60% of the operating weight of the exchanger plus the additional piping load as appropriate. The soil bearing pressures and the moments induced in the foundation slab shall be calculated on the basis of a 60% -40% distribution of increased loading to the supports. For foundations which have for reason of layout the supports offset from the neutral axis of the foundation slab, the 60% -40% distribution shall be checked in each direction to ascertain the critical load configuration. Horizontal forces shall be derived by applying the appropriate friction factor selected from the table below. "Support plinths beams and frames" under exchanger saddles shall be equal in size and strength. Due account shall be taken of temporary loads that may occur during maintenance and repair.
