Subject: computer mouses or mice? в поисковых системах результатов масса на оба варианта. какой, на ваш взгляд, верный?

| большое спасибо. там мнения тоже разделились, как я посмотрю. наш американец сказал, что это будет mouses, а англичанин, к сожалению, в отпуске. |

"Mice" and "mouses" The fourth (current as of 2006) edition of The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language reports both "computer mice" and "computer mouses" as correct plural forms for "computer mouse." The traditional form "mice," however, is the most common choice, whereas some technical documents' authors may prefer the form "mouse devices." |

mouses does not exist as a word in english in any context, ever. its always MICE and MOUSIES is in no case to be used :) unless you are 5 years old and your mother always said to you, "oh, look at the cute little mousies in eating the cheese". :))))) no offense here intended |

Juliza we named her Ksenya (Ksyusha) and she is fine. a bit angry becasue i went back to work so soon, but she is getting over it. :) |

Juliza no, new england is not a state i was born in Rochester, NY. but i lived for quite some time in DC before moving to Moscow (which i am probably never leaving). sometimes i am not really sure "where i am from" to tell you the truth |

| oh the joys of AC! we have that here at work but of course at home i have the 3-month-old who i swear was ready to crawl out of her skin last week. it felt like it must have been 112 farenheit in our apartment! |

Umberto Eco has an entartaining volume on Translation, entiteled Mouse or Rat (in English version of cource), taking it from the difficulties faced by modern translators of classical, namely latin, texts, where no distinction is drwan between those two types of rodent. It is all mus in Latin... just a passing thought.))) (An interesting book though!) |
