This is close to the minimum amount necessary to sensitize gum without much speed loss. It is also slightly higher contrast and fits negatives with density range of approximately log 1.0, roughly similar to that of a normal enlarging negative. Adding more dichromate will increase speed a little and will print a log 1.25 negative, but that also means dumping more of the toxic chemicals down the sewer line.
