A carried interest is an arrangement whereby one or more partners in an Oil & Gas joint venture agree to finance certain joint operations in lieu of another partner of the joint venture (the latter partner often being a local company holding the State's interests). The contracts generally provide that reimbursement for the amounts advanced under those circumstances is to be made by deduction from the future proceeds due to the “carried” partner.
