The Inlet is divided into three regions: the head, Upper Cook Inlet, and Lower Cook Inlet. The head region is comprised of the Arms, and the Upper Inlet is comprised of the area south of the Arms that extends to a narrowing constriction at Nikiski. The constriction, also called the Forelands, divides the Inlet into Upper and Lower regions.
