Subject: an historical Creation of an historical of each job during the in-plant set up.
по правилам нужно an history, as well as an hour, an hotel |
an hour - да, ведь слово начинается с гласного ЗВУКА (не путать с БУКВОЙ). А historic(al) начинается с СОГЛАСНОГО звука. |
говорят же вам - традиционное написание. посмотрите грамматику |

Which is correct: 'a hotel' or 'an hotel', 'a historian' or 'an historian'? And why is it 'a European' not 'an European'? The form an for the indefinite article is used before a spoken vowel sound, regardless of how the written word is spelt. If you say 'an otel' when speaking (which is now often regarded as distinctly old-fashioned), then it may be appropriate for you to write 'an hotel'; but most people say 'hotel' with a sounded 'h', and should write 'a hotel'. By contrast, words such as 'honour', 'heir' or 'hour' in which the 'h' sound is dropped are written with 'an'. Americans who drop the 'h' in 'herb' may also prefer to write 'an herb', but in standard British pronunciation the 'h' is sounded, and 'a herb' is therefore correct in writing. Because 'European' is said with an initial 'y' sound, which counts as a consonantal sound in English speech, it is said (and written) with 'a' not 'an'. An abbreviation such as M.P., which is pronounced em pea, begins with a spoken vowel, and so it is 'an M.P.' |
Historically speaking, according to The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language (Houghton Mifflin, 1996), “an was once a common variant before words beginning with h in which the first syllable was unstressed; thus, 18th-century authors wrote either a historical or an historical but a history, not an history.” By 1926, H. W. Fowler (Modern English Usage) regarded the continued use of an before such words as pedantic. Nowadays it survives primarily before the word “historical”; one rarely encounters a reference to “an hysterectomy” or “an hereditary trait.” Apparently using a or an before the h- of the unstressed syllable of a few words is at the discretion of the speaker or writer. Some people say a historic time, others say an historic time; some say a hotel, others say an hotel; some say a hysterical child, others an hysterical child. (с сайта изд-ва Лонгман) |

Fremd: судя по кургузой фразе (в оригинале), в грандиозность планов заказчика Персифоны верится с трудом. ТМ: не benign, а good-natured, если не возражаете (а то первое как-то ассоциируется с опухолью, хоть и доброкачественной))) счастливого Вам полёта и лёгкого чемодана! |

Мерси, ма шер. ;) |
Some people pronounce "historical" as "is-TO=rikl", i.e. without the beginning "h". It is easier to say "anisTOrikl" with the indefinite article than "a-hisTOrikl". I guess, it rolls of your tongue better that way. Also, in the U.S., epecially in western states, people say "ay-hisTOrikl", that is they pronounce the "a" article as the letter "A" in the alphabet. I hope this makes sence. |
