Я думаю, что тут до пенсии далеко, если это связано с окончанием курса в университете.. и до отставки тоже.А вот этот ответ я нашла на просторах инета:
Another case of Honorable dismissal is when an Honorable Dismissal is issued by the University Registrar to a student who voluntarily withdraws from the University for purpose of transferring to another school.
Вам скорее этот вариант подойдет больше, чем пенсия или отставка

Я думаю, что Вы правы - это отчисление по собственному желанию - м.б. в связи с переводом в другой университет/институт

Я думаю да. Тут еще нашла объяснение на сайте одного из университетов:
A student in good standing who desires to sever his connection with the university shall present a written petition to this effect to the University Registrar, signed by his parent or guardian. If the petition is granted, the student shall be given honorable dismissal.
Generally, honorable dismissal is voluntary withdrawal from the University with the consent of the University Registrar or his representative.
