При этом ранее встречалось просто ВОР (в значении противовыбросной задвижки)

Речь о буровой установке

У нас было Spherical BOP, в противоположность плашечному (ram), оборудование NOV/Shaffer.

нагуглился частный вариант "surface BOP" (это вряд ли, но чем черт не шутит)

Surface BOP точно вряд-ли, а вот subsea BOP очень может быть, если речь об offshore.
