Поскажите, пожалуйста, нужны ли артикти в надписях к катинкам, изображениям и т.д.?

Совсем в них запуталась.

Например: Fig1: Location map with area of test activities

I would not worry too much about that.
Your version seems OK, except I would insert "the" in one place:
Location map with THE area of test activities.
Surely, we should not discard it altogether, even in captions.
