Safe Planet: the United Nations Campaign for Responsibility on Hazardous Chemicals and Wastes Safe Planet: the United Nations Campaign for Responsibility on Hazardous Chemicals and Wastes is an ambitious campaign for ensuring the safety of the environment and human health from hazardous chemicals and wastes. This global public awareness and outreach campaign is designed to show how we can take responsibility for keeping the planet safe from these harmful substances. Safe Planet has invited high-profile individuals and international experts to share human bio-monitoring information and help raise public awareness of the challenges of sound chemicals and waste management in every corner of the globe. Human bio-monitoring is a method of assessing the toxic chemical burden increasingly borne by the life of our planet. The Campaign will highlight solutions to the growing problem of hazardous chemicals and wastes that are available through initiatives undertaken by the three leading global chemicals and waste management instruments – the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions. |
не совсем - воздействие на среду - это экологический мониторинг. Термин биомониторинг же применим к человеку The determination of chemical substances in human body fluids was first used in occupational medicine for health protection of exposed workers. The determination of lead (Kehoe et al., 1933) or benzene metabolites (Yant et al., 1936) in blood and urine are early examples of human biomonitoring (HBM) of workplace exposures. In the early 1960s, powerful analytical techniques that allowed to measure very low concentrations of chemical substances in blood and urine began to enter the laboratories. These techniques provided the possibility to determine much lower concentrations of chemical substances in human body fluids caused by environmental exposure. Using atomic absorption spectroscopy, e.g., it turned out that the general population of industrialized countries was exposed to lead in a degree that required immediate action. As a consequence, the lead content of gasoline was reduced and for the first time HBM was used in great population studies to determine the blood lead levels and to control the success of the measures taken. In 1977, the Commission of the European Communities (CEC) enacted the ‘‘council directive on biological screening of the general population for lead’’ (Council directive 77/312/EEC, 1977). |
