С открытым я бы поспорил.
Исходя из предыдущего контекста.
Там в нем есть окошечко. Получается — закрыт.

И смотря на рисунок вижу, что может быть мое "незакрепленный" и не подходит. Но free тут по-любому для меня не "открытый", а, тогда получается, "свободный" от проводов.

Но всяко не "открытый". Не лезет в меня это.\\

В нашем случае, если уж совсем не нравится (вызывает сомнения) слово "открытый", можно перевести по смыслу - "рабочий торец прибора".

Получается:
"На Рис. 5a изображен рабочий торец прибора, изображенного на Рис.4, с прикрепленным к нему сменным легко заменяемым упором. "
