4.13.3 Overvoltage Protection (7VV3003)
The rotor, as well as the thyristors, must be protected against overvoltage as it may be caused by switching operations, slipping of the rotor or atmospherically disturbances. According to these reasons the overvoltage protection is placed in parallel to the thyristors and the rotor.
The overvoltage protection system includes a so called "crow bar system" that consists of two antiparallel thyristors and a *firing stage.
