Тансу Чиллер? Похоже, что речь идет о том (упоминание Анатолии - не случайно), что на территориии Турции вера более "европеизированная", что ли, т.е. не шариат, но даже здесь признание выдающихся личностных качеств у женщины - редкость. А вот ей удалось доказать, что это не так. ИМХО.

irisha, it could be about tansu ciller. but i doubt it. tansu, with her corrput and extravagant ways, did not endear herself to the turkish public, especially to the chateratti. nor did she do a service to women's rights in turkey by allying with a hard-core islamist party all in a bid to avoid being indicted on curruption charges. moreover, since a reference was made to anatolia, which is turkish hinterland, i would say it is an allusion to guller sabanci, the wealthiest woman in turkey, and perhaps second wealthiest in europe after elizabeta regina. before her uncle died, he appointed guller as head of the family business empire whose interest stretch from real estate to private tertiary education, bypassing his own sons and other male heirs in her favor. that was an audacious move, and would have been in any country, but in what still is a traditionalist country, it causes a furore. i m inclined to believe it is about guller.

По поводу турчанок: возможно, Вы правы. Просто Чиллер была первой, что пришло мне на ум, вспомнилось какое-то интервью с ней, где она рассказывала о своей нелегкой женской доле. :-)
