1.1.6 Thermal Expansion
The mutual connection of the casings is designed in such a way so that the relative displacements between rotor and stator parts are minimized. The fixed point of the LP turbine is situated in the middle of the exhaust branch. The fixed point of the HP-IP turbine is in the bearing pedestal between HP-IP and LP turbines. The front bearing pedestal is movable on the foundation plate, and smooth sliding is assured by a teflon foil, which is fastened to the bottom surface of the bearing pedestal.
Both bearing pedestals are connected axially to the HP-IP turbine casing by a flexible "I" piece. The HP-IP casing pushes the front bearing pedestal forward. The flexible "I" piece enables a free expansion of the casing from the parting plane downwards, whilst remaining very rigid in the transverse and axial direction. During any axial movement the front bearing pedestal is maintained in the coaxial position with the pedestal support to which it is keyed.

Обе стойки подшипника крепятся по оси к цилиндру ВД-СД гибкой I-образной деталью. Цилиндр ВД-СД толкает переднюю стойку подшипника вперёд. Гибкая I-образная деталь обеспечивает свободное расширение цилиндра от плоскости разъёма в направлении вниз, при этом она остаётся очень жёсткой в поперечном и осевом направлениях. Во время перемещения в осевом направлении передняя стойка подшипника остаётся в положении соосном со опорой, к которой она прикреплена.
