Do they mean that the company took part in the nomination process or that the company itself was nominated? Thanks!

The meaning is unclear in Russian. Not least because "Участие в премии" is nonsense.

"Участие в премии" sure is a funny way to put it, but the meaning nevertheless is clear: the company took part in the competition (in one of the nominations) and that was it, nothing is being said about it having been nominated anywhere or having won anything.

in what way can you take part if you are not nominated or havent won? you chose the nominees? you judged? what? what? what? this is the last line of the damn translation and i am about to lose my mind becasue of it. bah!

Say, "was on (the agenda)," "appeared," "showed up," etc.?

Just run. Номинация does not mean here nomination as a process (of nominating smth.), but just an award category. Like in Academy Award there are Best picture, Best Actor/ess, etc categories, so in this Building Award there are Градостроительный объект, Торгово-развлекательный комплекс, Офисный комплекс etc. categories ("номинации").

Я бы тож предложила "was nominated/made the shortlist for best project". Явно они ничего не выиграли, иначе прямо бы так и написали. Run/competed for -- да, передает суть, что старались, участвовали, but it does not pull the wool over the reader's eyes, unlike the Russian text. :-)

По-моему зря так насчет русского текста. Это конечно не Толстой и не Достоевский, но и никакой попытки выдать желаемое за действительное в нем нет. Просто категория в каком-то конкурсе по-русски часто называется "номинация", это обычное выражение, не подразумевающее, что кто-то был куда-то номинирован в смысле выбран в более узкий круг и т.д.

Праально, "номинация" здесь, в русском оригинале, обозначает категорию. Но я предлагала was nominated/made the shortlist для перевода слова "участие", полагая, что просто ran/competed будет звучать жалко и не передаст попытки автора сказать что-нибудь достойное о компании. (а он пытается, раз упоминает.)
