Выражение встречается в следующем контексте: Two variables controlled by the surgeon determine the level or height of the superior palpebral fold (ie, eyelid size). The first is the distance from the ciliary margin at which the inferior lid incision is made. This incision level ranges from 6 to 10 mm above the ciliary margin depending upon the eyelid size desired. The second variable that determines eyelid size is the amount of preseptal skin that hoods over the surgically created palpebral fold and pretarsal skin postoperatively. In other words, pretarsal show determines actual lid "size" because as the amount of overhanging skin increases, the pretarsal show decreases (and the lid appears smaller), and vice versa.
