I translated this as "he flipped the ball with his heel over his own head ... and drove ahead, almost up to the tape itself." But I'm really stuck on "на выход." (I'm guessing that ленточки pertains to the goal line, since the player made a goal. But I'm not a soccer fan, and am not sure on this either. :-( ) |
http://football.about.com/od/football101/l/bl_glossary.htm (IMHO) to own rushing way kicked from the line |
kicked the ball ahead of himself? |
he heel-kicked the ball sending it over his head and in front for the breakway |
имхо, he back-heeled the ball over the head (in)to the path of himself... and kicked right from the goal-area line... |

Thanks to all for your help. I think sledopyt's sounds the most like English--"breakaway" sounds like a reasonable choice for "на выход," in view of the more usual meanings of that word. And 10-4: You are "on the ball"! Yes, this quote is from the Yevtushenko story, which is a contest item at ProZ.com. I am not a ProZ member, so I can't compete until I get together enough money to join, but I'm doing the translation to improve my Russian skills. In any case, the "prize" is a little icon next to your name--not exactly a top item on E-bay! The Proz rules forbid posting linguistic questions from contests anywhere on the Proz site, but doing so on other sites is allowed. Did you mention this because you thought this was a problem? Sorry for not answering in Russian, but my written Russian is not much good.
