The substantial growth in the half-yearly results at A. (название компании) has been surprising. However, it is remarkable that a significant increase in investment returns could be reported (seemingly due to the differences in accounting methods between HGB and the IAS), whereas A. had to issue another profit-warning in July due to poor return on investments. Accounting methods aside, there is reason for optimism. A. is switching to modern products and moving towards "Open Architecture": since 1/9, A. has been selling funds-linked life insurance, and has equipped its sales representatives with Laptops and Expert systems, which they will be using to determine customer demand for old-age provision. Also, positive trends are now appearing in the USA, as well as in Italy and France. There, premiums could be adjusted upwards by +15%, mainly because a number of different investment funds have now been arranged. This constitutes a move towards Open Architecture as already practised by XXX. It is only in this way that an informed clientele can be retained, because it provides more choice. There is speculation in the U.S. newspapers that A. would like to bring in a well-known American asset manager. The rumours point to N. A.
