Товарищи, помогите, плиз с "побывать во многих руках"

Контекст:
С тех пор крепость побывала во многих руках.

Я нашла passed through many hands, но как-то не очень звучит.

все же ваш вариант, volyna, именно то, что вам нужно. change hands - менять хозяев, мне кажется, что про деньги/монеты/банкноты так не говорят
