Further, such an occurrence might take place in line with significant softening in the global economy, perhaps as a direct result of a contraction in the U.S. consumer. Unless the Fed would respond aggressively with stimulative monetary policy, such a scenario would be unlikely to be bullion bullish...

Наверное, easing здесь будет синонимом softening, imho.
