next-to largest. well, it would be intuitive to infer from that brief phrase that this woman's family is second largest, but that would not be necessarily correct. had the person who is responsible for drafting it in english meant that, he/she would have said she had the second-largest family, blah, blah, blah. but s/he didnt. that means it was not that important. therefore, annaa's suggestion rings more true to me, at least. of course it is neat picking, and arguing over this is akin to creating a strom in the proverbial cup.
