Subject: on the tight side Не могу найти ни в одном словаре перевод выражения "to be on the tight side". Выражение встретила на первой странице "The Painted Veil" Моэма:
... She pointed to his shoes. He tried to put them on, but his nervousness, for her alarm was affecting him, made him clumsy, and besides, they were on the tight side... Не могу перевести и даже догадаться из контекста, потому что непонятно, кто или что был on the tight side - Китти и ее любовник, или его туфли:-) Пожалуйста, помогите!
