Subject: дневник школьный Утро доброе,Кто подскажет как назвать дневник - школьный, тот где двойки ставят и замечания о поведении пишут и который родители контролируют. Причем так надо назвать чтобы англичанин понял о чем речь. pupil's mark book как-то коряво звучит, может что-то еще? |

Все-таки маркбук? И еще - комментарий в этом дневнике "Молодец!" каким словом лучше донести правильный смысл? Т.е. это не просто well done, а именно ребенка очень похвалили. Например attagirl применимо в таком смысле? |
| i dont think it matters whichever way u want to translate this into english, because the whole concept is just alien to americans, at least. they just don't have that. parents are sent grade reports from time to time, to see how many a's, b's, c's, d's and the rest their kids have received. |

Имхо, естественнее всего написать просто "good" или "excellent", в зависимости от того, насколько сильно там его похвалили. Attaboy/girl можно устно сказать в неформальной обстановке, но для дневника это несерьезно :-) |

It does not matter what American, Chinese, etc. students have for recording their everyday marks at schools. We as iterpreters/translators are supposed to make authentic translation of our texts (like the dnevnik word) into English, even if a translated word does not have a proper match or is not fully understood. Who understands okrug, oblast, rayon, etc without explanation? And about taking a stand. That's absolutely right. |

and that is why i offered grade report. jesus h christ, not every word needs to be translated literally, they have computer applications for that. that is why we r paid big bucks to do a little creative thinking, to extrapolate, to go above and beyond to find a word that will tell the target audience something instead of just being a calque. as for taking a stand, one needs to pick one's battles, and not blow trifle matters out of all proportion. if u all want to gang up on me, for whatever reason, i cannot stop u. and i will just go away. will this board be a better place without me? u may not like me, my tagline, that i write in english, or that i m not russian. but u cannot deny that i have helped some pople on this very board when they were in need of help. so, what is gonna be? tal' |
