Интересует, до какой степени взаимозаменяемы слова "network" и "grid".
Например, насколько правомерно заменить слово "grid" на "network" из примера в словаре
"the bus service formed a grid across the country"
чтобы получилось
"the bus service formed a network across the country"
???

или дальше больше:
насколько правомерно назвать телекоммуникационную сеть словом "grid" вместо "network", а энергитическую сеть "power network" вместо употребляемого "power grid"?
где та грань? и почему нельзя (если нельзя) порой заменять одно другим.

A network is a more freely-associated group of nodes, while a grid is more geographically-restricted group that cannot be change easily. I would say that "The bus service formed a network across the country" would be correct. For it to be a grid, the bus service would have to be contained to just one city or one small area. I would also say that 'telecommunications network' and 'power grid' are set phrases. You can't replace grid or network here. 'Telecommunications network' is a set phrase because it uses wireless technology and is more of a "freely-associated group of nodes". 'Power grid' is a set phrase because the technology is land-based and cannot be easily changed or adapted. I hope this helps. Извините что пришлось ответить на английском.
