The Standard also calls for ducts around conveyors, for the routings from the production building to the gas house and back again, to be open at the base. The logic for this is that these ducts normally run all the way to the gasser enclosure, and thereby form a route by which gas in the primary enclosure could get into the production building. The design of the ducts on the gas houses is that they terminate at the outside wall of the secondary enclosure. On the feed side, therefore, where cans are not gassed there is little risk of gas getting from the primary enclosure to the production area via the duct. On the outlet side gas from leaking cans could be channelled into the production area by the duct around the conveyor. I therefore recommend that you open up the bottom of the duct.
