Выражение встречается в следующем контексте:

Джон, "вышка" - это сокращение от "высшая мера наказания", смертная казнь.
Попробуйте использовать в своем переводе:
liable to capital punishment - подлежащий смертной казни
или
inflict capital punishment - назначить смертную казнь (давать "вышку")

"Sentence to capital punishment" is really good, but it lacks expressiveness of the original, and thus underperforms in your generally chatty text in terms of style.
"Вышка," now part of the vernacular, happens to сome from the language of convicts. The criminal origin of slang words like this is now often forgotten, yet they keep their expressiveness and instantly recognized as such.
If you wish to keep your translation as chatty, and if you translate into English, I'd advise som recognizable US slang for "execution." Avoid the mention of hanging, gas chamber or electrial chair, though. The Chinese, afaik, are not as sophisticated.
