Subject: fenya; tyremnyi yazyk; argot; etc A quick repost while I seem to have the floor...Kto mozhet etu pesnyu perevesti na RUSSKI? Шнеeт урка в шармe у майданщика. Vyssotski had a song with many of these words, but it's not quite the same. Whatever the case, I'm not so au fait with Fenya, etc. The terms of art that I can translate have too many similar meanings for me to make sense of, e.g. майданщик, so I don't know which meanings are appropriate in the context. I'd love to see the song translated into Russian, and I can play with it in English myself. Anyone up for the challenge? Or is the task too easy? |
What do you need this for? Handling shit is not hard but not pleasant. |
Simple curiosity, Fog-meister! |

Look, man, are you au fait with Russian? I believe so. "Simple curiosity"? Then, why don't you use many "онлайн феня" sources and dicts? There are out there, man, just waiting for you to quench your thirst for Fenya. A word of advice: watch for typos\spelling errors, I believe there are some in the text. Speaking of Vyssotskiy, it is not his song, that is, he did not write it. The bottomline is: any Russian is able to do it; can you? If the answer is yes, prove it! No pain - no gain, that's the ticket! |
Thanks, Wolverin. I have spent more than a couple of hours researching this online, but thought I should ask if anyone here actually knows the meaning of these lyrics, as opposed to me guessing which of a dozen synonyms applies to many of the uncommon words. And none of the Russians I've spoken to have such a good grip on this lingo, so I have to disagree with your bottom line... I better get back to work! |
Вульверин, I am Russian, I am... but I am not able to to do it, even though I took a special course in this kind of ...language)) And I am almost prrrrroud of it) |

ozmikal, this prison language (its vocabulary) was conceived and developed by the soviet russia criminals as a secret code, with the main purpose of being able to communicate without being understood by prison guards. naturally, the common folks would have even more trouble understanding it. |
silly wizard, ну зачем иностранных подданных в заблуждение вводить))? Тюремному языку гораздо больше лет. И обманывали при помощи него не вертухаев, которые зачастую по долгу службы владели феней, а лохов (обычный люд). |
Well, just out of curiosity, I have just listened to the "canonical" song. Here is the lyrics: Шнырит урка в ширме у майданщика, Но штемп и не вздрогнул и не растерялся, Со всех сторон сбежалися лягушки, Я дать совет хочу всем уркаганам, You see, all this stuff is not quite my cup of tea, meaning I don't enjoy it. The following can be corrected just by comparing the two texts: Шнеeт = шнырит |

"Vyssotski had a song with many of these words, but it's not quite the same" Давайте не путать Гоголя с Гегелем (как вариант- Божий дар с яичницей). Высоцкий то здесь при чем? У него- "стилизация", а тут- без тех, кто "в теме", я, лично, не рискнула бы разобраться... |
Мусьмиам, "I am Russian, I am... but I am not able to to do it, even though I took a special course in this kind of ...language))" Пардоннэ-муа, мон (ма) шер ами, но как же словарики онлайн и обычные, чутье родного языка, знание жизни, фантазия наконец? |
To ozmical: A correction of my 23:45: |
Ahhhh... What a nice warm "welcome" to a newbie... )) What they all were trying to say, ozmikal, is "no, we don't really know what any of that means. We all heard some of these words, but the exact translation of the song is best left for someone who studied Fenya in depth, a fenyalolog of sorts. ) |
Вульверин! шер - мон. из всех вами упомянутых средств разгадки шифра более-менее реальные - словарики. Но словарики тут нужны специяльные. Очень рекомендую словарики Грачева М.А., кстати. |
Well, guys, I must thank you for the discussion. Hasn't led me anywhere, but has a brought a smile to my face. And thanks, lisulya, for supporting us newbies! I don't know if anyone knows what this stuff means. I'm not sure that the typos are actually typos, given that the Vysotsky lyrics are different and even the song structure seems different. Maybe the guy I got it from sang it this way in his jail and only his cellmates would know what the song's about! And yes, I asked him to tell me what it means in Russian, but had no luck there either. So I'll put the matter to rest, but will keep an eye out for the Grachyov dict (thanks, musmiam). |
