... before September 1, the beginning of the new academic year, .... (for день знаний) фгу -- federal state institution. i think you can go without it |

can you tell me in russian which words correspond to фгу ? and день знаний, is it sthg particular, sthg like the 1st of september? i mean, why does the journalist uses this term? thank you for answering that fast btw! :) |

фгу -- федеральное государственное учреждение день знаний IS the first of September, the day when a new academic year begins in post-Soviet states. the day is known there as день знаний. the journalist perhaps thinks that the use of the term makes the story hmm... a bit more lively. |
