A part of the armed forces designated for limited warfare which may or may not involve the use of tactical nuclear weapons, as well as for operations in continental or maritime theatres during a general nuclear war, in conjunction with the strategic forces. General-purpose forces consist of ground forces, tactical air forces and naval forces with the exception of nuclear ballistic missile submarines. (UKR/NATO)
