milit., logist. A military maneuver or simulated wartime operation involving planning, preparation, and execution. It is carried out for the purpose of training and evaluation. It may be a combined, joint, or single service exercise, depending on the participating organizations. FRA 2. The principal and most effective means by which land, air and naval formations, units, subunits and command and control organizations achieve and improve their proficiency, and commanders and staff officers receive operational training. They are conducted with troops, headquarters and command and control bodies from all the armed forces and arms of the service and with specialized support troops, and are one of the main methods of increasing their combat readiness.
