operational deployment
mil., logíst. Measures to constitute force groupings in theatres of operations and on strategic or operational axes, and to deploy them in order of battle. It is a vital element in the strategic deployment of forces. Its purpose is to ensure an orderly and timely start to military operations, to repel aggression and to conduct operations to contain armed conflict. As a rule operational deployment is carried out in advance, on the eve of a war, or at its outset in the event of a surprise attack. See also strategic deployment of the armed forces; activation.
