В Российской Федерации закон об оружии принят в 1993. Вопросы, связанные с оружием массового поражения, регламентируются международными конвенциями и соглашениями. Оружие появилось в первобытном обществе дубина, деревянное копье, лук и др.. Затем были созданы бронзовые и железные мечи, копья т. н. холодное оружие. С открытием пороха возникло огнестрельное оружие - в 12 в. у арабов, с 14 в. в Зап. Европе и на Руси. В 16 в. созданы первые образцы нарезного оружия пищаль, штуцер и др.. В сер. 19 в. на вооружение армий и флотов приняты мины и торпеды. Во 2-й пол. 19 в. появилось скорострельное, а в дальнейшем - автоматическое оружие пушка, пулемёт и др. и миномёты. В 1-й мировой войне использовались танки, самолёты, зенитные орудия, а также авиационные, глубинные бомбы и др. В ходе войны германские войска применили химическое оружие хлор, иприт и др.. Во 2-й мировой войне получили распространение самоходные установки, реактивные установки "Катюши" и др. В 1944 немецкие войска начали использовать управляемые самолёты-снаряды Фау-1 и баллистические ракеты Фау-2, а в августе 1945 США применили ядерное оружие. Большой Энциклопедический словарь
